Our Services

We will always do our best to explain to you why you need treatment and what different options you have available to you so you can make an informed choice. However, we do appreciate that it is difficult to remember everything we have told you, so this section of our website is aimed at giving you some basic information about why procedures are needed and how they are carried out. If you have any further questions, please get in touch - we'll be happy to help.

Preventative Minimally Invasive Dentistry

We would like our patients to keep their teeth and as much natural tooth tissue as possible. This starts with a preventative approach where almost all our patients will see the dental hygienist - we do have a few patients who are already perfect and don't need to... When intervention does become necessary we will keep treatment to the minimum required to ensure continued dental health.

Cosmetic Dentistry

Cosmetic dentistry is not a favoured term within our practice as it conjures images of an overly white, unnatural looking smile and lots of preparation of the teeth. If you have a problem with your smile please make an appointment to see Chris who will make a thorough assessment of what you want and how to achieve it. Modern porcelain comes in many varieties and a natural smile that suits you can often be achieved with minimal tooth disruption.

Tooth Whitening

Tooth whitening is a safe and proven procedure. At The Croft Dental Practice we believe that the best way of achieving results is by the 'take home' method where a patient applies the whitening agent to their own teeth using trays made by our lab. A consultation is required and if the patient is suitable we will take impressions at that visit. Trays that fit over the teeth come back from the lab in about a week which are checked for fit and then given to the patient along with the whitening agent and all necessary instructions and advice. The procedure then usually takes a week to 2 weeks to achieve the desired result.

Implants are placed in the practice by our visiting oral surgeon. The implant itself is a kind of 'root' which is then restored after allowing some time for healing by Chris, our principal dentist. Sometimes a crown can be placed on top immediately but this is unusual. If you wish to discuss implants please contact us for an assessment as individual cases are often very different.

Visiting Specialist Oral Surgeon

We have strong links with implantologist and oral surgeon, James Stafford. James is an award-winning dentist with practice limited to implant dentistry and oral surgery.

He gained his undergraduate BDS degree from the University of Sheffield, winning the prestigious national "Heraeus Kulzer" prize awarded by the British Society for the Study of Prosthetic Dentistry for work on the replacement of missing teeth.

Post-graduate training in implantology began in 2008 at the University of Warwick where he completed a Masters degree, achieving both distinction and also the prize for highest clinical and academic marks.

He will perform most aspects of oral surgery as required but mainly attends the practice to place implants. He is very personable and thorough and has been popular with the patients in the practice.
